Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich wants more Polish fans at Elland Road

Leeds United and Poland midfielder Mateusz Klich is hoping to see more of his compatriots attending matches at Elland Road following his move to the Championship club.

Leeds United and Poland midfielder Mateusz Klich has urged more of his compatriots to attend matches at Elland Road following his move to the Championship club.

The 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Whites following an impressive season in the Netherlands with FC Twente, in which he scored six goals in 29 appearances.

As well as trying to drum up interest in the club among the Polish diaspora living in and near Leeds, Klich has also spoken of how it was his dream, alongside that of every young boy in his country, to play in England.

Klich told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I know there is a lot of Polish people that live here so I hope they will join the stadium and they will come to watch games – maybe because of me. We could have more Polish fans!

"At the end of the last season Leeds showed some interest in me and basically I have been thinking about it since.

"I had a good season at Twente and I felt good there and stuff like that but the decision wasn't difficult because it's the dream of every small boy in Poland and Europe to play in England. I wanted to come here – I remember Leeds playing in the Premier League."

Klich has been capped 10 times by Poland, scoring one goal in his nation's colours.
