Leeds confirm new one-year Marcelo Bielsa contract

Leeds United confirm that manager Marcelo Bielsa has signed a new one-year contract at the club, keeping him at Elland Road until the end of the 2020-21 season.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has signed a new one-year contract at the club.

The 65-year-old steered Leeds back into the Premier League after a 16-year absence last season, but his future for the upcoming campaign was still officially unresolved prior to this announcement.

Bielsa had verbally revealed yesterday that he would be staying on for the 2020-21 season, and the club have now confirmed that he has put pen to paper on a deal which keeps him at the club until next summer.

"Leeds United are pleased to confirm Marcelo Bielsa has signed a new one-year deal with the club to remain as head coach for the 2020-21 season," read a statement on the club's website.

"Under his tenure, starting with a fine 3-1 victory over Stoke City at Elland Road in August 2018, the former Argentina and Chile head coach has taken charge of a total of 100 games for the Whites, winning 56, drawing 17 and losing 27 over two seasons.

"Bielsa last season guided Leeds to the Sky Bet Championship title, winning the league by 10 points and creating history in the club's centenary campaign."

Leeds will play their first Premier League game since 2004 when they visit champions Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.
