No truth in Leicester City return for Claudio Ranieri?

Leicester City are believed not to have contacted former manager Claudio Ranieri about the club's vacant managerial post following the departure of Craig Shakespeare.

Leicester City are believed not to have contacted former manager Claudio Ranieri about the club's vacant managerial post following the departure of Craig Shakespeare.

Shakespeare, who replaced Ranieri on a three-year contract after the Italian was sacked, was removed from the post last month with the club in the relegation zone after a poor start to the season.

Ex-Southampton boss Claude Puel was appointed as Shakespeare's replacement but reports from Italy that claimed that Ranieri was contacted prior to Puel taking the job are untrue, according to the Leicester Mercury.

Corriere dello Sport ran an interview with Ranieri, who now manages French side Nantes, and began by questioning the claim that an official from inside Leicester contacted him about a return to the East Midlands.

The 66-year-old replied "no thanks" and the Mercury understands that if the Italian had received such a call, it had not come from Leicester.

The Foxes face a trip to the bet365 Stadium on Saturday to face Stoke City in the Premier League.
