Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri says that it did not surprise him when Jamie Vardy returned to the scoresheet during the recent international break.

Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri has insisted that he "never lost confidence" in Jamie Vardy after the England forward ended his goal drought during the recent international break.

Vardy's 24 Premier League goals last season fired Leicester to the title, but the 29-year-old has only managed three goals in 17 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions this season.

The striker returned to the scoresheet for his country in Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Spain, however, and Ranieri is confident that Vardy will now hit the goal trail for his club.

"I never lost confidence in Jamie Vardy. I have managed a lot of goalscorers. It's not possible to score all the time. I tried to help him, just to break the unluckiness," Ranieri told reporters.

"Finally he broke the ice. It was important for him and for everybody. Of course he never spoke about this, but the goalscorer always wants to score. I think it will be a new Vardy."

Leicester, who are currently 14th in the Premier League table after a difficult start to the season, will travel to Watford in the league on Saturday afternoon.
