Steven Gerrard aims to end his six months off the pitch at Brighton next Wednesday.

Steven Gerrard aims to return to the pitch next week, according to reports.

The Liverpool captain, who has been out of action for six months due to a persistent groin problem, had targeted a comeback in this Sunday's Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.

However, the Liverpool Echo claims that next Wednesday's third-round Carling Cup meeting with Brighton is now more likely.

The 31-year-old has not played for the club since they hosted Manchester United on March 6.
