Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says that defender Joe Gomez will 'miss a couple of games' after sustaining an ankle injury while on international duty with England.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has played down fears that Joe Gomez could face an extended period on the sidelines.

Gomez suffered an ankle injury during the early stages of England's friendly with the Netherlands last Friday, and a report had suggested that the defender faced a month on the sidelines.

However, while saying that the injury is "serious", Klopp has claimed that the youngster will only miss "the next couple of games".

Klopp told the club's official website: "After the initial shock, we got the best news we could get. At the moment, it's serious – and serious enough to rule him out for the next couple of games. But I think we will see Joe back on the pitch this season, it's pretty sure, how it looks at the moment.

"He feels much better already but of course we need to be careful. I don't know exactly how long but we hopefully have a lot of games to come and he will be part of a few."

Over the next two weeks, Liverpool play Premier League fixtures with Crystal Palace and Everton, as well as a Champions League double-header with Manchester City.
