Steven Gerrard: Let's win it for the fans

Steven Gerrard is using the Liverpool fans as his inspiration ahead of Sunday's Carling Cup final against Cardiff.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has called upon his teammates to win the Carling Cup for the fans.

Liverpool will be aiming for a record eighth League Cup success when they face Cardiff in the final on Sunday, and Gerrard believes the club owe it to the fans to capture more silverware.

"It's going to be a great occasion for the supporters," Gerrard said.

"They've waited long enough for a day like this. It's been a difficult few years but they have stuck with us and been brilliant.

"We know what the fans want and it's up to the players to give it back to them. I don't need to tell Liverpool fans how to make noise - I know they will be right behind us on the day. We've got to give everything for them. They deserve a trophy."

Gerrard, who has won the trophy on two previous occasions, has recently spoken of his desire to see the club use the final as the catalyst for another successful spell.
