Joe Allen "really excited" by prospect of playing alongside Lazar Markovic

Joe Allen admits that it has been "really exciting" to see Lazar Markovic impress in training since moving to Liverpool.

Joe Allen has revealed his excitement at the prospect of playing alongside Lazar Markovic for Liverpool next season.

Markovic recently completed his move to the club from Benfica for a fee believed to be in the region of £20m, and Allen admits that the Serbian has already impressed the rest of the squad during their pre-season tour of the USA.

"Obviously he has only done a couple of sessions, but straight away you can see the quality that he brings," the Welsh midfielder told reporters ahead of Wednesday's meeting with Roma in Boston.

"I'm really excited to get the chance to play with him and train alongside him as well."

Markovic became the fourth signing of the summer for Liverpool following the earlier arrivals of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can.
