Liverpool striker Christian Benteke: 'Jurgen Klopp is ignoring me'

Christian Benteke admits that he cannot understand why Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is 'ignoring' him.

Liverpool striker Christian Benteke has admitted that he cannot understand why manager Jurgen Klopp is 'ignoring' him.

The Belgium international has struggled to cement a regular starting spot since Klopp's arrival at Anfield in October.

The 25-year-old, who has scored just eight goals in 35 appearances, appears to be third choice behind Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi.

West Ham United have been linked with a summer move for the striker, and while Benteke has claimed that he wants to succeed at Liverpool, he has not closed the door on a future transfer.

"Some teammates have said that I was lucky with the arrival of Klopp, because I certainly would play," Benteke told Belgium's Sport/Voetbal magazine. "When your coach says he wanted to take you to Dortmund and a little later you sit at the same club and he ignores you it is hard to understand.

"I find it bizarre, I do not understand why people say that [I can't play in Klopp's style]. I can play pressing and moving a lot. It is not that we play in the Barcelona style.

"In January I didn't want to leave and it's still my desire to succeed at Liverpool. We'll see at the end of the season."

Meanwhile, Benteke and his Belgium teammates' friendly against Portugal was postponed following Tuesday's terror attacks in Brussels.
