Roberto Firmino was "really happy" to see Jurgen Klopp replace Brendan Rodgers

Roberto Firmino was "really happy" to see Jurgen Klopp replace Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool.

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has admitted that he was delighted to see the "excellent" Jurgen Klopp replace Brendan Rodgers on Merseyside.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund coach took over from axed Rodgers in October in a managerial change which has impressed the Brazilian, who joined from Hoffenheim in the summer.

Given his four years in Germany, Firmino is aware of Klopp's credentials, and the 24-year-old says that Liverpool - who have won seven of their last eight games - will continue to flourish under the German.

"I was really happy [when Klopp was appointed]," he told The Telegraph. "I hadn't really been playing up to that point and he knew me and I knew him. We get on well. He gets on with all the players. He has made a really good impression.

"He's an excellent coach. He managed Dortmund and has won titles in the Bundesliga, which is very difficult.

"He has always been really competitive in the Champions League... he's having an effect already. I think we can achieve things."

The Reds visit struggling Newcastle United on Sunday.
