Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes that the club are making "huge strides forward" this season, but has insisted that there is still a long way to go.

The Merseyside outfit are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table, 11 points away from Champions League qualification.

"We're taking huge strides forward, it's going to take time," Gerrard told the club's official website. "There's been a lot of change throughout the season but we're taking strides forward.

"What we've got to try to avoid is making slip-ups like West Brom at home and Southampton away. If we can avoid those slip-ups, we'll find consistency.

"We've got to look at the next game, which is Newcastle - a very tough game. Here at Liverpool, we'll try to win them all and see where we finish."

Meanwhile, Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has insisted that the club want to keep Luis Suarez, despite the striker controversially biting the arm of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during yesterday's 2-2 draw at Anfield.
