Alan Hansen: 'Liverpool must still believe they can win Premier League title'

Alan Hansen believes that Liverpool must believe that they can still win the Premier League title heading into tonight's match against Crystal Palace.

Former Liverpool defender Alan Hansen believes that there could still be a twist in the Premier League title race ahead of the final weekend of the season.

Manchester City survived Saturday's test against Everton by securing a 3-2 victory, which moved them to the top of the table.

Both City and Liverpool are equal on 80 points, but Manuel Pellegrini's men have a game in hand against Aston Villa in midweek, while the Reds face Crystal Palace this evening ahead of Sunday's final match against Newcastle United at Anfield.

While the race is out of Liverpool's hands, Hansen believes that Arsenal's last-gasp title win in 1989 and Sergio Aguero's late goal against Queens Park Rangers in 2012 prove that twists are still possible.

"One minute you can be down and out and then it can all swing around in seconds and you are back in pole position," Hansen wrote in The Telegraph.

"Liverpool face Crystal Palace tonight ultimately needing a win to maintain the pressure on City and, quite simply, they have got to remove any doubts and believe they can still win the league."

City's final league game is at home to West Ham United.
