Mats Hummels believes that Jurgen Klopp, whom he worked with at Borussia Dortmund for seven years, has what it takes to get Liverpool's season back on track.

Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels has backed Jurgen Klopp to get Liverpool's season back on track following a disappointing start to the campaign.

The Reds have won just one of their last seven games in all competitions, leaving them seventh in the Premier League and already seven points adrift of Manchester City and Manchester United.

Liverpool return to action with a home match against rivals United on October 14 and Hummels, who won two Bundesliga titles with Klopp during their time together at Dortmund, is confident that his former boss can successfully turn things around.

"I'm following Jurgen Klopp really closely because of the seven years we had when he coached me at Borussia Dortmund," he told Sky Sports News. "I was really happy when he had a good start this year, but right now it looks a little tough for him and the club.

"But he and the team will get out of this situation, it's not too bad but it's not as good as they wanted it to be."

Klopp and Hummels could be reunited in the coming weeks, as reports suggest that the German coach is wanted by Bayern to take over from Carlo Ancelotti.
