Martin Jol is thankful for a "much-needed win" after Fulham's 1-0 victory over Liverpool.

Martin Jol is thankful for a "much-needed win" after Fulham triumphed over Liverpool at Craven Cottage last night.

Clint Dempsey scored the only game of the match five minutes from time after a blunder from Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina.

The goal came after Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing was sent off for a strong challenge on Moussa Dembele.

"I thought it was a bad tackle," Jol said.

"You might have got away with it in the days when I was playing in England, but I think it was a sending off.

"It gave us a bit more space and we took advantage. It was a much-needed win."

Goal scorer Dempsey said that the red card proved to be a turning point in the game.

"It gave us more pace and time on the ball, opened them up a little bit and allowed us to start creating more chances," the American said.

Fulham are currently 13th in the Premier League with 15 points from 14 games.
