Julian Nagelsmann remains coy over his future as Germany head coach amid links with the managerial job at Liverpool.

Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann has been coy over his future amid links with the Liverpool job.

Last month, Jurgen Klopp made the surprise announcement that he would be leaving his post as Liverpool boss at the end of the season.

The Reds are now searching for Klopp's successor, with former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso believed to be leading the race to take over the reins at Anfield.

A recent report claimed that Liverpool have made contact with the 42-year-old, who is currently doing a fine job at Bayer Leverkusen.

The German club, who are yet to taste defeat this season, are currently leading the way in the Bundesliga, while they are still involved in the Europa League and DFB-Pokal.

Although Alonso may be the favourite to replace Klopp, Nagelsmann has also emerged as a contender to become the new Liverpool head coach.

Nagelsmann is currently in charge of the Germany national team after being appointed on a short-term contract last September.

With his deal set to expire after Euro 2024 in Germany, the 36-year-old offered very little when he was asked whether he would still be in his role at the start of the UEFA Nations League campaign in September.

"I haven't thought about it yet," Nagelsmann told Sky Sports. "Since my contract ends after the Euros, I would say, 'as it stands now, no.' I've said it since the beginning of my tenure.

"The Euros is currently the focus. Then we'll see if I'm still the coach. If so, we'll prepare very well and try to get the most out of it and win the group. We want to play a good Euros. Then we'll see what happens next."

The Germany boss began his management career in October 2015 when he was appointed Hoffenheim head coach at the age of 28.

Nagelsmann left Hoffenheim in 2019 to take over the reins at RB Leipzig, where he achieved third and second-placed finishes in the Bundesliga and a final appearance in the DFB-Pokal.

After landing the main job at Bayern in 2021, Nagelsmann led the Bavarians to the Bundesliga title and the German Super Cup in his first season in charge.

However, he was unable to complete a second campaign with the club after being replaced by Thomas Tuchel in March last year.

Nagelsmann has experienced mixed results since becoming Germany head coach, with his four matches producing one win, one draw and two defeats.
