Liverpool's Alisson, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho will reportedly not be able to play against Leeds United after the club refused to release them for international duty.

Liverpool will reportedly have to cope without their Brazilian contingent for this weekend's clash with Leeds United following a FIFA ruling over players being blocked from international duty.

The Reds did not allow Alisson Becker, Fabinho or Roberto Firmino - who is injured anyway - to link up with Brazil for September's World Cup qualifiers due to its status as a red list country.

The trio would have been forced to isolate for 10 days upon their arrival back into the UK should they have travelled to their homeland, but the Brazil FA reportedly took action to punish Premier League clubs for not releasing their players.

According to BBC Sport, FIFA have now informed Liverpool and other Premier League clubs who blocked Brazilian players from international duty that they cannot select them for this weekend's matches, with the Brazil FA triggering a five-day ban rule.

As a result, Alisson and Fabinho are set to miss Sunday's trip to Leeds alongside the injured Firmino, while Raphinha, Fred, Thiago Silva, Ederson and Gabriel Jesus will not be available for their respective clubs, but Richarlison's participation at the Olympics means that he will not be punished.

The news comes after Brazilian health authorities previously stormed the pitch in Brazil's clash with Argentina over four Premier League players who allegedly refused to declare their arrival from the UK and undergo mandatory quarantine periods.

Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso, Emiliano Buendia and Emiliano Martinez were all caught up in the debacle and will also not be available for their clubs this weekend due to self-isolation measures.
