Martin Skrtel: 'Danny Ings leaves defenders exhausted'

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel praises teammate Danny Ings for his workrate following the Reds' 3-2 victory at home to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Liverpool centre-back Martin Skrtel has praised teammate Danny Ings for his 'non-stop' work rate.

The 23-year-old striker, who joined the club from Burnley in the summer, has started the Reds' last three games in the absence of Christian Benteke, scoring twice.

"I know he didn't score (against Liverpool last season) but facing him was tough, really tough," Skrtel told the Liverpool Echo. "I remember how he never stopped running and moving.

"If you switched off for even a second he was gone and he's been the same in training here. I'm glad he's with us now.

"The amount of work he puts in every day is huge and I'm hoping he can score lots of goals this season."

Under-fire Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is expected to rest Ings for the club's Europa League tie at home to FC Sion on Thursday night, with the Merseyside derby following on Sunday.
