Max Verstappen has revealed his long-term ambition to compete at Le Mans, with Fernando Alonso as his ideal teammate.
The quadruple Formula 1 world champion admits that his current focus on F1 leaves no room for an endurance racing debut. However, he confirmed that a Le Mans entry with Alonso is something both drivers have discussed.
"We know that we want to," Verstappen told The Mirror. "It's in the back of our minds."
Recent developments have intensified speculation. Red Bull's 2026 engine partner, Ford, recently announced its return to Le Mans for 2027, leading many to suggest a possible Verstappen entry.
At the same time, Aston Martin will also field a hypercar prototype designed with input from Adrian Newey, the Valkyrie, with Alonso heavily linked to that effort.
While Verstappen has dreamed of racing alongside his father, Jos, in the legendary 24-hour race, he confirmed that the former F1 driver is not interested in the challenge.
"He is still very good at it - but he doesn't want to," Verstappen said. "He just doesn't want to do it anymore."
Verstappen also acknowledged that driver weight would be a crucial factor in selecting a third teammate.
"I'm quite a heavy competitor, so I would have to find light teammates to compensate," he explained. "Fernando is quite light, so that would be very good for us, but we would need to find another one."
