Gary McAllister backs Brendan Rodgers to rise to challenge

Liverpool first-team coach Gary McAllister believes that Brendan Rodgers will prove his doubters wrong by guiding the club to success this season.

Liverpool first-team coach Gary McAllister has revealed that he is confident that Brendan Rodgers can rise to the challenge of guiding the club to success this season.

The 42-year-old has been put under pressure in his position following his side's underwhelming 2014-15 campaign and their mediocre start to the current season.

However, McAllister has backed his manager to prove his doubters wrong to move the Reds back up the Premier League table.

He told reporters: "He knows the challenge. He knows the job. He's been here a few years now. He knows what's expected. For a young manager, he's got experience. He knows what it takes to get results in the league.

"He's proved it before and it's up to us as a staff to give him help. But he'll continue playing the style that he's known for – a quick, passing game that's attractive to the eye.

"Everybody was disappointed after a bad day against West Ham followed by a poor day at Old Trafford. Everybody needs lifting. At some point the motivator needs to be motivated."

Liverpool face Norwich City in their clash at Anfield later today.
