Steve Nicol: 'Simon Mignolet not on Loris Karius's level at Liverpool'

Nicol: 'Mignolet not on Karius's level'

Steve Nicol suggests that Liverpool should find a replacement for Simon Mignolet this summer.

Steve Nicol has advised Liverpool to forget about Simon Mignolet following his fall down the rankings.

The Belgium international was dropped as first choice by manager Jurgen Klopp at the turn of the year, with Loris Karius stepping up to take the number one jersey.

In 19 Premier League appearances, Mignolet has conceded 24 goals and kept seven clean sheets, while his teammate has successfully protected his goal six times in 12 top-flight outings and has allowed 10 goals to be shipped past him.

"I think Liverpool should go and see if they can either get a number one or have somebody who's on a level with Karius because Mignolet isn't," Nicol told ESPN. "He is clearly the number two, and I think what Mignolet's doing is waiting to see if he can get a game in the World Cup.

"[Thibaut] Courtois has had a couple little injury nicks recently, and a good World Cup will mean Mignolet is in the shop window and he could get himself a good move."

Mignolet joined Liverpool from Sunderland in 2013.
