Steven Gerrard is reportedly open to hanging up his boots in order to make a return to former side Liverpool as part of the club's coaching staff.
The 36-year-old, who spent nearly three decades with the Reds before moving on to pastures new last year, is seeking a new challenge after calling time on his stint with Los Angeles Galaxy earlier this week.
According to Goal.com, Gerrard has discussed the possibility of a return to Merseyside with academy director Alex Inglethorpe, but is only interested in taking up the offer should he be given a prominent role and not a symbolic one.
Talks are said to be at an advanced stage, with Liverpool chiefs hoping that the ex-England international, who left for Hollywood as the Reds' third-most capped player of all time, can use his years of experience to help bring through the next generation of youngsters.
It is claimed that Gerrard has received numerous other offers, though, including the option to prolong his playing career by a further 18 months elsewhere, and the Football Association is also understood to have made contact.
