Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers describes Jonjo Shelvey's performance as a striker in the Reds' victory over West Ham United as "outstanding".

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has a bright future at Anfield following his performance against West Ham United.

The former Charlton Athletic player was pushed up into a striker's role for yesterday's 3-2 win over the Hammers due to Luis Suarez's absence.

"You see young Jonjo Shelvey at 20 years of age playing the number nine role in a different way - dropping into midfield and combining with the midfield players to make the fourth man, being a threat when he is in around the box, showing great feet and I thought he was outstanding, the kid," the London Evening Standard quotes Rodgers as saying.

The Reds are currently four points away from a Champions League spot in the Premier League table.
