Salah wins FIFA goal of the year award but misses out on spot in World X1

The Liverpool striker was also in the running to be named The Best FIFA Men's Player – which was won by Luka Modric.

Mohamed Salah may have been one of the three people nominated for The Best FIFA Men's Player but his name was a curious omission from the FIFPro World 11.

Croatia star Luka Modric pipped former Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool talisman Salah to the main prize at a star-studded awards show in London.

But Salah, who collected goal of the year honours, did not even have the consolation of being chosen in the team of the year, with new Juventus signing Ronaldo leading the line up front.

Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard was one of three Premier League representatives on the list, selected in a three-man supplementing role to Ronaldo alongside Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Paris St Germain's Kylian Mbappe.

Manchester United's David De Gea was selected ahead of Real Madrid counterpart Thibaut Courtois, who was voted as the best goalkeeper in the world.

Dani Alves grabbed one full-back spot, with Real Madrid trio Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo completing the defence, while Modric and Chelsea's N'Golo Kante given the nod in a two-man midfield.
