Steve Nicol: 'Liverpool will sack Brendan Rodgers if team doesn't improve'

Steve Nicol believes that Liverpool will sack manager Brendan Rodgers if the Northern Irishman fails to turn the Reds' season around.

Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol believes that manager Brendan Rodgers will get sacked by the club if he fails to turn the team's fortunes around.

The Reds have struggled this season so far having won just six out of 15 Premier League games, in stark contrast to last season when they finished second, just two points behind champions Manchester City.

Last night, the Merseyside outfit's Champions League campaign came to an end following a 1-1 draw with Basel at Anfield.

"If things don't change then ultimately Brendan will pay the price. I don't think they will have any other option [but to sack Rodgers]," Nicol told talkSPORT.

"We are not even halfway through the season yet and I'm guessing most people don't expect Liverpool to get into the top four.

"You really wonder where this team is going. He has tried to add to the squad to make it better and somehow it has turned the other way. It is a team that is completely rudderless."

Rodgers was crowned Manager of the Year at the end of last season for Liverpool's heroics.
