Toby Alderweireld rubbishes Liverpool link

Ajax's Toby Alderweireld insists that he is not behind recent quotes that have linked him with a move to Liverpool.

Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld has dismissed recent quotes that had been attributed to him regarding a summer switch to Liverpool.

A report earlier this month had claimed that the Belgian international had said that a transfer to the red half of Merseyside would be in keeping with his "criteria".

However, the 24-year-old has now insisted that he has no idea where those quotes came from.

"I have also read that Liverpool would be interested," Alderweireld told Dutch newspaper Metro. "I never said Liverpool would be my next club. Nothing is true about that."

Alderweireld joined Ajax as a trainee from Germinal Beerschot in 2004.
