Peter Crouch urges "phenomenon" Mohamed Salah to sign new Liverpool deal

Peter Crouch urges Mohamed Salah to sign a new long-term contract with Liverpool, as the Egyptian enters the final two years of his current deal at Anfield.

Peter Crouch has urged Mohamed Salah to sign a new long-term contract with Liverpool and become a club legend.

The Egyptian has just under two years remaining on his current deal, and negotiations between both parties to extend it are yet to have reached an advanced stage.

Crouch, who scored 108 Premier League goals with nine different clubs, is perplexed as to why the likes of Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres seem to be appreciated more by the Reds' fanbase, and he hopes the 29-year-old ties down his long-term future with the club soon.

"Salah is a phenomenon... yet there is still that feeling of under-appreciation and I cannot put my finger on why. Maybe it is because the eye-popping numbers he produces every season have become the norm," Crouch wrote for the Daily Mail.

"Compare him to Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez for a moment. They are almost held in higher esteem – and are deemed more special – by supporters. But he has a record that eclipses them easily.

"The priority is making sure [Salah] agrees a new contract. He is the best signing they could make. Everybody else is done and he is the biggest hitter. The best thing he can do is sign a five-year deal, secure himself for life and become a club legend."

Salah became the fastest Liverpool player in the club's history to reach 100 Premier League goals, when he found the net for the Reds in their 3-3 draw away against Brentford last weekend.
