Kenny Dalglish: 'Liverpool, Raheem Sterling don't have to part company'

Kenny Dalglish insists that Raheem Sterling should be given the time to decide his future by Liverpool after he turned down a new contract with the Merseysiders.

Kenny Dalglish believes that there is no reason why Liverpool and Raheem Sterling need to part company after the winger rejected a new contract with the club.

The 20-year-old turned down a new deal worth £100,000 per week and admitted that he was not interested in re-opening negotiations with the Reds until the end of the season.

Reports have suggested that Sterling could leave the club in the near future, but Dalglish is adamant that the club have to give him the time he needs to decide over a long-term deal.

He told The Mirror: "There are a lot people saying 'why doesn't he just make his mind up?' Well, he will still hopefully come to a positive conclusion for Liverpool.

"The only thing any uncertainty does is create an opportunity for people to speculate wildly, and that doesn't help anybody. But that doesn't mean he is not entitled to take his time, make his mind up and, hopefully, decide Liverpool is the best place for him.

"It has been a good marriage between Liverpool and Raheem up until now, so I don't see why there should be a divorce."

Sterling is under contract with Liverpool until the end of the 2016-17 season.
