Liverpool allegedly learn how much it will cost to sign Sporting Lisbon winger Marcus Edwards during the summer transfer window.

Liverpool have allegedly been made aware of how much it will cost to sign Sporting Lisbon winger Marcus Edwards.

The Premier League outfit are currently attempting to end the season on a high, something which is now considerably in doubt after recent defeats to Atalanta BC and Crystal Palace at Anfield.

However, work is persisting behind the scenes to determine how they wish to progress forward once Jurgen Klopp departs the club at the end of the season.

As well as trying to tie Mohamed Salah down to a longer contract than 2025, the other main priority is attempting to secure a suitable replacement for the dugout.

Reports have indicated that Sporting boss Ruben Amorim is the current frontrunner for the role, regardless of the public stance that the Portuguese has recently taken when it comes to discussing speculation.

What will Liverpool have to spend on Edwards?

Since the links with Amorim, it has naturally been suggested that Liverpool could look to sign at least one of his current Sporting crop, who are well on their way to winning the Primeira Liga title.

Centre-back Goncalo Inacio is the most obvious option, yet it remains plausible that Liverpool may look to secure a deal for former Totteham Hotspur youngster Edwards.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool will be able to sign Edwards for a £30m fee from June onwards.

In terms of numbers, Edwards has not enjoyed his best campaign, contributing just five goals and four assists during league and European fixtures.

Nevertheless, the 25-year-old has been a standout player for Sporting since making the switch in 2022, chipping in with 21 strikes and 25 assists from 107 appearances.

Is a move for Edwards realistic?

Given other players that are of similar profile and price range, Edwards would not necessarily be the first-choice option for Liverpool fans if they strengthen in the final third.

That said, the working relationship between Amorim and Edwards could prove key, and Liverpool may not go in that direction if Amorim does not move to Anfield.

His former club Spurs have also been credited with an interest in their ex-academy graduate, who made just one appearance before his exit.

Should either or both clubs express an interest in Edwards, further bids from elsewhere could follow, particularly when he will have just two years left on his contract.
