Liverpool 'planning loan move for Aaron Long'

Liverpool will attempt to sign USA international Aaron Long on loan before the transfer window closes, according to a report.

Liverpool will reportedly attempt to sign USA international Aaron Long on loan before the winter window closes.

The Premier League champions are missing both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez with long-term knee injuries, while Joel Matip, who has struggled to stay fit this season, has now picked up an ankle problem.

Fabinho has been playing in central defence in recent weeks, but the defensive midfielder missed out against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night due to a muscular problem and will also not be available against West Ham United on Sunday.

Head coach Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the club are now looking to sign a new centre-back before the transfer window comes to a close.

According to Football Insider, the English champions have identified Long as the ideal signing as the 28-year-old is available on a three-month loan deal, with the MLS season suspended until at least April due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The New York Red Bulls defender, who has been capped on 18 occasions by the USA, has previously been linked with West Ham United.

Long has featured on 135 occasions for his current side in all competitions and any interested clubs would allegedly not have to pay a loan fee to sign him.
