Liverpool 'saw £20m Duje Caleta-Car bid turned down'

Liverpool reportedly failed with a £20m bid for Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car during the closing days of the January transfer window.

Marseille reportedly rejected a £20m bid from Liverpool for defender Duje Caleta-Car before the end of the January transfer window.

Liverpool announced on Monday evening that Joel Matip has been ruled out for the rest of the season, joining fellow absentees Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez on the sidelines.

Jurgen Klopp responded by securing the services of Preston North End's Ben Davies and Schalke 04's Ozan Kabak before Monday's deadline.

However, according to RMC Sport, the Premier League champions made a formal approach to Marseille for Caleta-Car.

The Croatia international has been a regular for the Ligue 1 side this season, allegedly resulting in a £20m offer being rejected.

The report suggests that Marseille may reconsider their stance regarding the player in the summer.
