Cardiff City reportedly identify out-of-favour Liverpool full-back Nathaniel Clyne as a loan target during the January transfer window.

Cardiff City have reportedly earmarked Liverpool full-back Nathaniel Clyne as a possible January transfer target.

Clyne has fallen behind fellow England internationals Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez in the pecking order at right-back and is yet to make a single Premier League appearance this season.

The 27-year-old is understood to be open to a move away when the transfer window reopens, while manager Jurgen Klopp is also willing to let the defender leave Anfield on a temporary basis.

WalesOnline reports that Cardiff are eager to sign Clyne on loan until the end of the season as they look to bolster their squad in an effort to stave off the threat of relegation.

Manager Neil Warnock wants a right-back, striker and midfielder during the January window and believes that Clyne would be an ideal option to improve their defence.

Warnock handed Clyne his professional debut during their time together at Crystal Palace a decade ago and is hopeful of striking a similar deal to the one which saw Marko Grujic join Cardiff on loan from Anfield last season.

Clyne has made just one competitive appearance for Liverpool this season, having lost his place in the team while out injured for most of last term.
