Manuel Pellegrini coy on Raheem Sterling speculation

Manuel Pellegrini says that he "will not talk about rumours" when questioned on speculation linking Manchester City with a summer move for Liverpool's Raheem Sterling.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has refused to be drawn on speculation suggesting that his side could make an approach for Raheem Sterling this summer.

The Liverpool winger yesterday added further fuel to the fire linking him with a move away from Anfield, by admitting that he is not ready to commit his future to the club beyond the end of his current deal which expires in two years' time.

A raft of Premier League clubs are rumoured to be monitoring Sterling's contract situation closely, with champions City said to be among those to have shown an interest in the Englishman.

However, speaking to reporters this afternoon, Pellegrini said: "I will not talk about rumours. We have so many rumours about so many players coming here. It is impossible to have such a big squad.

"I don't think there is any part of the year when we are not linked. It is the whole year. There are lots of rumours that we want players. I said we want one English player, but that does not mean I'm interested in this player. I won't talk about rumours."

Sterling recently turned down a new £100,000-a-week contract at Liverpool, and says that he will instead wait until the end of the season before making a decision with regards to his future.
