Liverpool could reportedly take advantage of Sporting Lisbon's financial difficulties and make a summer swoop for Spanish international winger Diego Capel.

Liverpool want to boost their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League in 2014-15 by securing the services of Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel next season, according to a report.

The cash-strapped Portuguese side have already agreed to sell Ricky van Wolfswinkel to Norwich City and several more big names could follow the striker out of the club in the summer.

Capel's exit could generate much-needed money for Sporting and The Mirror reports that Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing the 25-year-old Spaniard to Anfield.

However, the Reds could face competition from Marseille for the former Sevilla wide man, who would apparently cost in the region of £10m.

Capel has been capped twice at international level, but his last appearance for Spain was in 2008.
