Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing to go head to head for River Plate forward Lucas Alario.
Liverpool were strongly linked with a move for the 23-year-old earlier this year, but it is understood that the Merseyside club were not prepared to meet River's asking price of £8.5m.
According to Marca, Liverpool will return with an offer in January, but Jurgen Klopp's side will face competition from Tottenham, who have also had the striker scouted over the last couple of months.
Alario, who has also previously been linked with Inter Milan and Torino, recently signed a new contract at the club that he joined from Colon in the summer of 2015.
It is understood that the Argentine's release clause now stands in the region of £15.2m.
