Former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum says he 'cannot be congratulated yet' as he closes in on an expected move to Barcelona.

Georginio Wijnaldum has provided an update on his future ahead of completing an expected move to Barcelona.

The Netherlands international said his goodbyes to Liverpool last week and is due to become a free agent later this month.

Wijnaldum's agent was pictured in Barcelona last week, but Bayern Munich have also been tipped to move for the 30-year-old.

However, asked about talk of a move to Barca while on duty with the Netherlands, Wijnaldum did not give much away.

"You can't congratulate me yet. I can't say anything about it yet," he told ESPN. "It's not finished yet, so there is no news yet. We will see.

"I am still busy saying goodbye to Liverpool. I am still emotional because I got a goodbye that not many players got before me.

"Why I left, you will hear again. It will come out. The club also has to do with the fact that I am gone."

Recent reports suggested that Barca, who have already confirmed the arrivals of free agents Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia, may have to wait until next month before signing Wijnaldum.
