Lyon beat Montpellier on penalties to win Champions Trophy

Lyon win the Champions Trophy for a seventh time with a 4-2 penalties victory over Montpellier.

Olympique Lyon came from behind twice to beat Montpellier and lift the Champions Trophy at the Red Bull Arena.

Reining title-holders Montpellier led twice in normal time through John Utaka and Emanuel Herrera but could not make their advantage count on either occasion.

Utaka's opener was quickly cancelled out by a powerful header from Bafetimbi Gomis to make the score 1-1 at half-time.

A penalty from Herrera restored Montpellier's advantage following a handball from Gomis, but once again their lead was only temporary.

Jimmy Briand scored a neat volley with just 13 minutes remaining to send the match to penalties.

French international Hugo Lloris made two crucial saves in the shootout from Gaetan Charbonnier and Henri Bedimo to win the match and the trophy for Lyon 4-2 on penalties.
