UEFA 'relax Manchester City's squad restrictions for the Champions League'

UEFA reportedly relax Manchester City's Champions League squad restrictions from eight homegrown players to just five.

UEFA have reportedly relaxed the restrictions on Manchester City's Champions League squad for next season by stating that they only need to include five homegrown players.

The Premier League champions were dealt a £49m fine last week for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

Along with that, Manuel Pellegrini was told that he will only be able to pick a 21-man squad for next season's European competition as opposed to the usual 25.

While UEFA rules state that eight members of the squad have to be homegrown players, it has been reported by the Manchester Evening News that the European governing body are allowing City to include just five homegrown talents and 16 'free' stars.

Meanwhile, doubts cloud over Yaya Toure's position at the Etihad Stadium after the Ivorian tweeted yesterday that he will clarify his future after this summer's World Cup in Brazil.
