Cesare Prandelli: 'Mario Balotelli did not breach my ethics code'

Italy coach Cesare Prandelli plays down the red card that Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli received yesterday.

Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has insisted that Mario Balotelli's participation at Euro 2012 has not come under threat from his red card against Arsenal yesterday afternoon.

The Manchester City striker was dismissed for a second bookable offence, while also causing controversy when his high challenge on Alex Song earlier in the match went unpunished.

However, Prandelli has played down Balotelli's actions at the Emirates Stadium.

"I saw his sending off, but this time it was for a foul that was part of the game," the boss told Eurosport.

"I do not think the code of ethics can be applied in this particular situation.

"I will calmly evaluate his position as far as the squad for Euro 2012 is concerned, but I repeat, his dismissal was for a foul that was part of the game."

City manager Roberto Mancini yesterday conceded that the club are likely to sell the 21-year-old in the summer.
