Manchester City team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Watford

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League showdown with Watford.

Manchester City will resume their Premier League campaign on Saturday with a clash at home against Watford.

The reigning champions are expected to produce a convincing response to a shock 3-2 defeat at the hands of Norwich City at Carrow Road last weekend.

Watford, who performed superbly to draw 2-2 with Arsenal last time out, will be wary of the fact that Pep Guardiola's side beat them 6-0 in the FA Cup final four months ago.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Man City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's match.

Leroy Sane

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: February 29 (vs. Arsenal)

The Germany international underwent surgery after suffering ligament damage last month and is not expected to make a return to action for City until the new year.

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Guardiola's decision to opt against signing another central defender following the departure of Vincent Kompany has come back to bite him after Laporte, an integral part of his starting XI, picked up a knee ligament injury during the 4-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion ahead of the international break. The Frenchman is expected to miss around six months of action.

John Stones

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: October 19 (vs. Crystal Palace)

To add insult to injury, Guardiola lost another one of his defenders during training ahead of City's 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk, with Stones suffering a muscle injury which is set to keep the Englishman sidelined for five weeks, leaving Nicolas Otamendi as the only fit designated centre-back in the squad.

Phil Foden

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Virus
Possible return date: September 21 (vs. Watford)

The youngster did not travel with City to Ukraine due to a stomach virus, but Guardiola will be hoping to recall him for the clash with the Hornets.
