Former Manchester City forward David White has expressed his delight after Roberto Mancini signed a new contract at the club.
The Italian put pen to paper on a new five-year deal with the club, which makes him the Premier League's highest-earning manager.
Mancini has so far guided City to an FA Cup crown in 2011 as well as winning the Premier League last season, and White is adamant that the ex-Inter boss is the key to the club's future success.
"Getting the right manager and keeping him is paramount if you want success in football," White told talkSPORT.
"Expectations will be high, and rightly so. You can't say just concentrate on the Champions League, because winning the Premier League is what the fans will want. That will be a tough ask and improved performances in Europe will be the measure this season.
"Once you've tasted success, you want it every season. That's what Sir Alex Ferguson has done for United for a long period of time and City's fans will expect to win the Premier League again and to challenge for the Champions League."
City begin the new season at home to Southampton on August 19.
