Manchester City make light work of Leicester City

Manchester City see off Leicester City 2-0 in Wednesday evening's Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City's pursuit of Chelsea continues as Manuel Pellegrini's charges beat Leicester City 2-0 in this evening's Premier League clash at the Etihad.

The hosts began the game on the front foot, with a Wilfried Bony header being cleared off the line by Esteban Cambiasso.

In the seventh minute, Jesus Navas skimmed past two men and fired a low shot towards goal that was well saved by the feet of Mark Schwarzer.

Just moments later, Yaya Toure was next to try his luck, though his effort from 25 yards out proved straightforward enough for the Foxes keeper.

Man City continued to turn the screw as the game went on, though Jeff Schlupp appeared to be taken down in the box by a Bony challenge, but the referee rejected the appeal.

As it seemed like Leicester would take a clean sheet into the break, Aleksandar Kolarov's cross into the box fell to David Silva, who slotted home at the second attempt to give the Citizens the lead.

Pellegrini's side picked up from where they left off after the restart, as Silva raced onto a neat ball from Navas before pulling back to the unmarked Bony, who scuffed his shot wide of the mark.

In the 51st minute, the Foxes wanted a penalty after Fernando brought down Andrej Kramaric right on the edge of the area.

Just a free kick was given, however, with Kramaric picking himself up and sending his set piece into the side-netting.

Normal service resumed moments later, however, as Schwarzer had to be at his best to palm away a thumping Sergio Aguero header, and in the 69th minute, he tipped Toure's curling effort past the post.

Leicester, to their credit, never gave up, with Riyad Mahrez pushing forward and blasting a ball towards goal that had Joe Hart stranded. Luckily for the Citizens, the effort rebounded off the post.

However, Man City killed off the game two minutes from time when James Milner collected Toure's pass and skimmed Wes Morgan to tap home from close range.

The result puts the Etihad outfit five points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea - though the Blues have a game in hand - while Leicester continue to flounder at the bottom of the table.
