Vincent Kompany says that he will never take winning the Premier League for granted, as Manchester City celebrate their third triumph in seven seasons.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has immediately set his sights on retaining the Premier League title in 2018-19.

The Citizens were crowned champions for the third time in six years on Sunday afternoon without kicking a ball thanks to Manchester United's defeat at home to West Bromwich Albion.

Kompany says that he had a feeling today would be the day his side were confirmed as top dogs, and he is now hoping that City can become the first side to win back-to-back crowns since Man United between 2006 and 2008.

"You can't take [winning the league] for granted," he told Sky Sports News. "I've won three now but there's so many we've missed. My teammates will roll their eyes as I want to see the reaction from us next season as I've never been able to retain a title. My favourite title is still the first one - it was special.

"I had a feeling when I woke up this morning. I don't like to wait and see a team lose so it was different experience today. West Brom are a good team and don't deserve to be that low in the league.

"I have learnt from [manager Pep Guardiola]. When I was 20 I would have been a perfect player for him. Everyone that plays under him will have had success because of him, because he has the ability to unlock the full potential."

City, who also won the Premier League in 2012 and 2014, return to action next weekend with a home match against Swansea City.
