Barcelona sporting director Ramon Planes has revealed that the club are interested in signing Manchester City defender Eric Garcia.
The 19-year-old has rejected City's offer of a contract extension and will see his current deal at the Etihad Stadium expire in 2021.
Garcia has since been linked with a move to Barcelona, and Planes has confirmed that the Catalan giants are hoping to bring him back to his native Spain as they look to shore up their defence.
"It's true that we are looking for someone to help us in defence," Planes said during a presentation for new arrival Miralem Pjanic. "Eric Garcia is a great player, made in Barcelona, who loves the club, but whether or not he can join depends on the market.
"The club's idea is to build a young side alongside players who have given a lot to the club. Eric has that profile."
Garcia has made 23 appearances in total for Pep Guardiola's side, including 13 in the most recent Premier League campaign, but Barca will reportedly have to offload Samuel Umtiti and Jean-Clair Todibo before they can attempt to sign the City man during the transfer window.
