Manchester City have reportedly resumed negotiations with Velez over the signing of Argentinian wonderkid Maximo Perrone, after talks hit a stumbling block last week.
Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Benfica were all interested in the 19-year-old, but City appear to have won the race for his signature.
The Daily Mail reports that Pep Guardiola's side have made a breakthrough in negotiations and are set to sign the midfielder for £8.2m.
According to the report, Velez president Sergio Rapisarda recently told Velez670 that Perrone wants to leave the club to join the Citizens: "The boy, he wants to go. The City coach called him three times, Javier Mascherano also persuaded him, which I don't like.
"The boy loves the coach of that club. We are going to take the risk. We are trying to be the best in the transfer and with numbers that favour Velez."
The player is expected to feature in the South American Under-20 Championships this month before travelling to England for a medical.
