Manchester City have reportedly made an official €90m (£75m) bid for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong.
The 24-year-old has been a key player for the Catalan giants since his arrival in July 2019, but there have been suggestions that he could be sold to ease the club's financial problems.
The emergence of Gavi means that De Jong's spot in the first XI will be under threat once Pedri has returned from injury, and the Netherlands international could therefore be made surplus to requirements.
According to Fichajes, Man City, who were interested in De Jong during his time at Ajax, have approached Barcelona with a €90m (£75m) offer for the midfielder.
The report claims that the Catalan giants are seriously considering allowing the Dutchman to leave, as the proposed deal would see the club make a £10m profit on him.
De Jong has again been an important player for his La Liga side during the 2021-22 campaign, making 13 appearances in all competitions, contributing two assists in the process.
