Leeds United's Jesse Marsch believes Manchester City-bound Erling Braut Haaland is "destined" to become one of the best players in world football if he moves to the Etihad Stadium.

Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch believes Manchester City-bound Erling Braut Haaland is "destined" to become one of the best players in world football and feels he would make the Premier League leaders even stronger next season.

Haaland is believed to be edging closer to a move to the Etihad Stadium from Borussia Dortmund, after passing a medical on Monday and agreeing personal terms.

City are set to activate the player's €60m (£51.4m) release clause and an official announcement of the transfer could be made this week.

Marsch, who coached Haaland during his time at Red Bull Salzburg, has admitted that he would have liked to have seen the Leeds-born striker return to his birthplace, but he believes Man City are set to get their hands on a talented footballer and an "incredible human being" this summer.

"Erling Haaland is destined to be one of the best players in the world," March told reporters on Tuesday.

"It's his quality but also his talent. I wish he was coming back home here to Leeds, this is his hometown and birthplace but I understand the decision for him to go to Manchester City.

"It'll be interesting, he's an explosive player in transition and Man City often play a lot in possession. He can play any style of play but I certainly believe it makes Man City – one of, if not the best team in the world – even better.

"Credit to them for getting that done and I always wish the best for Erling, he's an incredible human being."

Haaland has excelled in front of goal for Dortmund since joining the club from Salzburg in 2020, scoring 85 goals in 88 appearances across all competitions.
