David Moyes: 'We need Javier Hernandez'

Manchester United manager David Moyes backs Jaiver Hernandez to be important this season despite a start to the season largely spent on the bench.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has insisted that Javier Hernandez remains key to his plans at Old Trafford, declaring that the Mexican striker will play his part this season.

Hernanez has largely been restricted to substitute appearances early in the campaign, with four goals in eight appearances including three in his last two games.

Moyes has strong options in attack with Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney both fit and firing, but has rejected suggestions that Hernandez could leave United in the near future.

He told UEFA.com: "We need Javier. He's very good for us. He's scored a lot of goals over the last few years and he continues to do so, so we'll continue to use him.

"He scored a couple of good goals the other night [against Norwich City FC in the League Cup]. Hopefully that continues."

The 25-year-old is fighting for a recall ahead of United's latest Champions League outing tonight, which comes with a trip to the Basque region to face Real Sociedad.
