Wayne Rooney will be fully focused on Manchester United's Champions League match with FC Basel, according to manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that Wayne Rooney will be fully focused on Manchester United's Champions League match with FC Basel tomorrow evening.

Rooney is due to attend a hearing in Switzerland on Thursday which will determine whether or not his three-match Euro 2012 ban will be reduced.

When asked whether his striker would lose concentration at St Jakob Park on Wednesday, manager Ferguson replied: "He's got a game tomorrow. I don't think the hearing comes into it at all."

Ferguson believes that his side's recent unbeaten record away from home in European competitions could prove to be crucial in the match.

"We need to make sure we try and control the game as we did at Aston Villa," he added. "It'll be a fantastic atmosphere but we've had a good record away from home in the last few years and that helps us.

"Hopefully, it applies itself tomorrow."

Defeat for the Red Devils will see them exit the tournament.
