Cristiano Ronaldo is named in the starting XI for Manchester United's Champions League group-stage opener against Young Boys in Switzerland.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been named in the starting XI for Manchester United's Champions League group-stage opener against Young Boys in Switzerland.

The Portugal international scored twice on his second debut for the club against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, and the veteran will again lead the line for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

There are changes from the team that started at the weekend, though, with Victor Lindelof, Fred and Donny van de Beek coming into the side.

Raphael Varane, Nemanja Matic and Mason Greenwood have dropped to the bench for the 20-time English champions, and it appears that Van de Beek will line up alongside Fred as part of a midfield two.

Jadon Sancho keeps his spot and is expected to operate off the right, with Paul Pogba playing from the left, and Bruno Fernandes again operating in the number 10 position.

Scott McTominay, Alex Telles, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Dean Henderson and Phil Jones all failed to make the trip to Switzerland through a mixture of injury and lack of fitness.

Full Manchester United XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, Van de Beek; Pogba, Fernandes, Sancho; Ronaldo
