England captain John Terry believes that Rio Ferdinand still has a part to play in the national side.

England captain John Terry believes that Rio Ferdinand's international career is not over yet.

The Manchester United defender was not named in Fabio Capello's squad for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro on Friday due to ongoing injury problems, and doubts have arisen over his future participation.

Despite the omission, Terry is confident that his defensive partner will return.

"I am 100% sure that Rio can come back," he said. "He has not been fully fit but when he plays he is still one of the best defenders in the world without a doubt.

"He is also still playing for one of the best clubs in the world."

England need a point in Friday's match to guarantee them a place in next year's finals.
